Introduction: The present study was conducted in order to compare the effectiveness of narrative therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy on the metacognitive beliefs of sexually abused adolescent girls aged 9 to 13.
Method: This research is practical in terms of data collection, and in terms of purpose, it was based on semi-experimental research of pre-test-post-test type with a control group. From the statistical population of sexually traumatized girls aged 9 to 13 referring to psychological service centers in Alborz province, a sample of 30 people was randomly selected in three groups of ten people (narrative therapy group, cognitive behavioral approach and control group) were replaced. The research tool was metacognitive beliefs questionnaire (Baku et al., 2009). Analysis of covariance method was used to analyze the findings.
Results: The results of the research indicated that there is a significant difference between the metacognitive beliefs of the three groups (p≤001). Both narrative therapy and cognitive-behavioral methods had a positive effect on improving metacognitive beliefs (p≤001). Comparison of two methods showed that the effect of narrative therapy was significantly greater than cognitive-behavioral therapy (p≤001).
Conclusion: In order to improve the metacognitive beliefs of sexually abused adolescent girls, it is suggested to use the narrative therapy method.
