چکیده [English]

Introduction: In the modern era, with the increase in friendships between girls and boys and with regard to the short-term emotional relationships of young people, the question of whether commitment plays a role in these relationships was raised. These factors became the basis for the research topic entitled: Investigating the dimensions of commitment in single youth in Abadan. The aim of the present study was to investigate the dimensions of commitment in emotional relationships of single youth in Abadan.
Methods: The qualitative and analytical research method was used to investigate the dimensions of commitment in young people. In this study, 19 young people with a history of emotional relationships were selected based on purposive sampling. The data collection tool was a semi-structured in-depth interview, and data analysis was carried out with a grounded theory approach. Initially, the interviews were entered into MaxQDA software and then coding was carried out.
Results: The research findings show that personal commitment has three components: partner attraction, relationship attraction, and relationship identity, and moral commitment has two components: moral loyalty to the relationship and a sense of loyalty to a partner. Structural commitment, which means staying in a relationship under duress and pressure, was not considered in single youth, and participants mentioned compromise, understanding, and hope for a life together. Also, according to the research results and participants' statements, the proportion of personal commitment was higher in young people compared to moral commitment, and they gave more importance to this dimension of commitment.
Conclusion: The result of this research enriches the previous research literature on commitment in emotional relationships of single youth. Also, the structure of commitment dimensions in this study is widely used for developing and implementing educational programs for young people and improving emotional relationships.
