Introduction: During the course of a reading disorder, children's cognitive and psychological processes are damaged. Accordingly the purpose of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral play therapy on the executive functions of 8-9-year-old male students with reading disorders.
Methods: The present study was a semi-experimental type. which was implemented with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of this research included the 8-9-year-old male students with reading disorder in Khomeini Shahr city in 1402-1403. In this way, 40 people were randomly selected from among those who referred to reading disorder treatment centers in Khomeini Shahr city, and then they were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups of 20 people. In the pre-test and post-test stages, both groups responded to the executive functions questionnaire of the parent brief form (2000). The experimental group underwent cognitive behavioral play Therapy during 8 sessions of 60 minutes based on the research and therapeutic activities of Schauffer (1993), and the control group did not receive any treatment. After the end of the sessions, both groups answered the research questionnaire again. The collected questionnaires were analyzed with 23 SPSS software and multivariate covariance analysis was used to check the research hypotheses.
Results: The results indicated that cognitive behavioral therapy play on inhibition (F=8.48), attention transfer (F=16.45), emotional control (F=16.85), initiation (F=54.05) Working memory (F = 30.50), planning (F = 41.88), material organization (F = 9.02) and monitoring (F = 16.97) are effective.
Conclusion: According to the results of the present study, cognitive-behavioral play therapy, using techniques related to play, cognitive and behavioral therapy, and strengthening the child's abilities and strengths, can be used as an effective method to improve the executive functions of students with reading disorders.
